Archive for January, 2012

My friend and brother Matt and I, have known each other for a number of years now, going back to our days in undergrad at the University of Waterloo, circa 2005. I have so much respect for Matt, who served several tours of duty in Afghanistan serving his country. If you want an example of [...]

It was a busy weekend working away in preparation for an important meeting that took place earlier this morning. The hard work was certainly worth it as we got some great feedback on our startup with a much clearer idea of how to proceed in the coming weeks. Decided to take the evening off and [...]

Spent most of the day working away at Coffee Culture in uptown Waterloo before moving to our office at the Treehaus in downtown Kitchener. Later in the evening, I had a series of meetings related to TEDxUW, TEDxWaterloo, TEDActive and TEDxAlAin, leaving me super excited for the months ahead!

Powering through a number of writing projects in preparation for a series of important meetings this week. Taking a break by playing around with Higgins who came to visit us earlier this afternoon at our office in the Treehaus.

Woke up this morning to snow, everywhere. Looking forward to another productive day at work and then celebrating with a good friend later this evening on a number of milestones achieved. 2012 is looking set to be a BIG year.

It’s always good to have a bottle of red wine handy, when catching up with a good friend you haven’t seen in a while.

Cheating slightly on Project 365 since this photo was actually taken on Sunday, January 22. I did want to put it up on this blog, and since I didn’t take a good photo today, figured that this would work. Had a great lunch downtown with SK this afternoon, worked at the Treehaus for most of [...]

Hosted a TEDxWaterloo Education Outreach meeting at The Chrysalids Theatre (formerly The Gig Theatre), with some WRDSB teachers involved with the Futures Forum Project today. And do we ever have some exciting things coming down the pipeline on the education outreach front. TEDxWaterloo is only two months away, and yet, there is still a lot [...]

The title says it all. And yet, the above picture captures the essence of my day that consisted of back-to-back meetings with a little bit of breathing room in between. Interestingly enough, I still have two more this evening before I can finally call it a night. Good times!

The highlight of my Sunday afternoon: catching up with some of my closest friends and collaborators. Peaches & love Ruby, Kristina and Nick.

My sister Loren passed away 10 years ago to this day. I wrote one of the most open and heartfelt letters to her here, knowing deep down in my heart that I have finally learned to let her go after all these years. Spent the day in Mississauga attending the Vietnamese Tết Festival at the International [...]

Rex looks so lonely sitting in the driveway. Perhaps the snow will stick around for the rest of the winter season?

You can never go wrong with pad Thai for dinner! Although the pad Thai at Thai Sun, a restaurant in Uptown Waterloo was quite delicious, I still maintain that the best pad Thai in town is at Veggie Fastfood located at the university plaza. Spent most of today working from home, venturing to the University [...]

Grey, misty and quite the miserable day outside today, as seen from the 2nd floor window of the Treehaus overlooking Kitchener City Hall. The temperature is hovering around the 7 to 10 degree Celsius mark. On the other hand, Calgary is currently experiencing -29 degree weather. Woah.

So dinner with MS earlier this evening made the cut to this blog! Crab & spinach cannelloni together with a citrus fresh garden salad were on the menu. Good food, good (decent) wine and good company… can’t complain!

Alright, I have a secret. I don’t know how to ice skate. Or I haven’t ice skated in 10-12 years or so and getting back on the ice would probably be really awkward. Or perhaps funny, depending on how you look at it. This is definitely going on my list of things to do/learn for [...]

Spending the afternoon in Scarborough hanging out with my godson. Here we are making faces and goofing around. I love this kid. Definitely needed a quiet afternoon after the ridiculousness of the Bier Markt in downtown Toronto last night.

And the weekend is off to a great start… Had two back-to-back TEDxWaterloo planning meetings earlier today. March 21st can’t get here soon enough and yet, there is still a lot to do to make TEDxWaterloo 2012 a reality. Lots of exciting things coming down the pipeline, especially on the education outreach side of things [...]

Another busy day filled with meetings back to back for most of the afternoon. Finishing up a proposal for a potential client, reaching out to and meeting with people to get some feedback and advice for our startup, and finally receiving the articles of incorporation in our email inbox today for said startup… all in [...]

Today has been a long but productive day, considering I only arrived at 2am last night, slept at 4am because of the time difference/jet lag, and was up and about by 8am ready to rock and roll. Spent all of my morning at the SiG office on the University of Waterloo campus getting caught up, [...]

En route from Calgary to London – January 2012

Calgary woke up to a blanket of snow this morning. It seems that winter is finally here. I’m flying WestJet from Calgary to London (Ontario and not UK) and because of the weather, my flight has been delayed for a minimum of 4 hours. It turns out the plane from Vancouver that was then supposed [...]

This was taken on the pedestrian walkway of the Sunnyside C-Train Bridge in downtown Calgary, Alberta.
