Archive for February, 2012

So much took place today that I will let the above photos do the talking.  This includes a discussion among the TEDxYouth organizers from around the world; the announcement of The City 2.0 as the TEDPrize Winner for 2012; and partying the night away in not 1, but 3 hilltop houses overlooking Palm Springs. Still [...]

Watching TED 2012 from the bean bag chairs at TEDActive in Palm Springs, CA. Incredible.

We went on a behind the scenes tour of TED 2012 in Long Beach today. Incredible to get a glimpse of what it takes to make a conference like TED happen, from the video production to the speaker rehearsal side of things. Im still blown away by it all.

My key takeaway from Day 1 of TEDActive in Palm Springs, California: TED is about ideas worth sharing. TEDx is about storytelling (from a local context). I still can’t believe that I am here and surrounded by all these wonderful, creative and energetic people. Overwhelmed by it all and trying my best to take this [...]

The city of San Francisco still has my heart, even though the last time I came to visit was back in 2007. One day.

Decided to drive down to San Francisco from Los Angeles on a whim. Clear blue skies throughout our entire drive. After this trip, Im convinced that I’ll be moving to California sooner than I expect. It was also good to have dinner with Ilya and catch up since the last time I saw him was [...]

It was amazing going out for dinner and catching up with Rina in Los Angeles after 22 years. We were childhood friends in Cebu back in the Philippines and lost touch after my family moved to the UAE from the Philippines when I was 5.

Humbled to have been selected as one of the Top 40 Under 40 for 2011 by the Waterloo Region Record. Certainly overwhelmed by the response and all the kinds words from friends and family, really appreciate it. Thank you. Loren, this one is for you. I hope you’re proud.

Meetings for most of the day, beginning with a 10am meeting at Williams Cafe that turned out really well. Gearing up to head to LA. Really have no idea what to expect over the next two weeks. It should be fun!

The end of a very long day, 4am and King Street in downtown Kitchener is absolutely quiet. I need to start going to bed and getting up at regular hours, but then again, what fun would that be?

Chillin’ with my brother from another mother.

Fresh snow on the ground this morning. Beautiful. Peaceful. Quiet.

Good times with good friends.

From the Jazz Bar at the Huether Hotel in Uptown Waterloo, to the art galleries located in an old warehouse in downtown Kitchener close to the Breithaupt Blocks, it seems that Im discovering a part of Kitchener-Waterloo that I always knew existed but never had the chance to experience. Until now that is. And I [...]

I wasn’t kidding when I said the best part of Valentine’s Day was the discounted chocolates on sale the next day!

Do you know what the best part of Valentine’s Day is? All of the discounted chocolate on sale the next day! Booya! For everyone in love out there, here is John Steinbeck on Love: http://renjie.posterous.com/john-steinbeck-on-love Happy Valentine’s Day all you beautiful people.

Trying out a bit of a social experiment. I sent this photo to my sisters yesterday to get their reaction, apparently, they loved it!

If I could, I would spend my days bouncing around from coffee shop to coffee shop, either laptop in hand working away or engaged in conversation with lovely people. Of course, part of the dream is that these coffee shops will be located in different parts of the world, not just in different parts of [...]

From the amazing high of #Linsanity and totally jumping on the Jeremy Lin bandwagon last night, to finding out via Facebook that one of the greatest voices to ever walk this earth, the diva Whitney Houston, has passed away at the age of 48, serves as a reminder that no matter how larger than life one [...]

Was on campus at the University of Waterloo for a series of meetings today. The landscape of the campus sure has changed, even when compared to what it was like two years ago. Experimented with the Microsoft Photosynth app on the iPhone to take the above panoramic shot of the campus.

Thank goodness for the business model canvas! It’s always a good idea to go back to the drawing board every now and then to figure out what the road ahead looks like, what value propositions we’re bringing to the table, and how we’re going to turn this into reality.

Balvenie scotch and Patron tequila. Certainly the beginnings of a good night!

A bit late to the party since this book was published in 2007. However, it’s still a great read and would recommend it to anyone who is in the business of communicating ideas with the intent to change the world.

Red velvet, caramel chocolate, coconut chocolate, and a carrot cupcake for good measure. No matter how busy or stressful days get, there is always time to take a cupcake break!
